BAUN Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Makine MÜhendisliği Anabilim Dalı Yüksek Lisans programına, Lisans mezunu ilgili alan mezunları ve farklı mühendislik disiplinlerinden bilimsel hazırlık programını tamamlamları şartıyla sınavla öğrenci kabulü yapmaktadır. Öğrenci kabul şartları ilgili birim web sayfasında her kabul döneminde yayınlanmaktadır.

The Main Branch of Science
History
Establishment of mechanical engineering department dates back to 1976-77 academic year as a part of Balikesir State Engineering and Architecture Academy (BDMMA) which was connected with Uludağ University in 1982. Following the establishment of Balikesir University in 1992, the department has become a part of Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Evening education programme has started since the 1991-1992 academic year.
The major disciplines are:
• Energy,
• Construction & Manufacturing,
• Mechanics
• Machine Theory & Dynamics,
• Thermodynamics.
In addition to the undergraduate education programme, Master of Science and Doctorate degrees are offered within the Balikesir University Institute of Science and Technology.

Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
First Cycle (Bachelor's) Degree diploma, (2) A minimum score of 60 in the Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (ALES) or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level programmes such as GRE, GMAT, etc., recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on ALES and first cycle degree grade point averages.
For International Students:
First Cycle Degree diploma obtained from universities recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their first cycle degree grade point averages.

Higher Grade Transition
|
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to third cycle programmes.

Graduation Requirements
Second Cycle (Master's) Degree is awarded to students who have,
* required to take a min. of 7 courses (21 BAUN credits)
* a min. CGPA of 2.00/4.00 with no failing grades
* given research seminars and successfully defended a thesis.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Department can work on design of mechanical and energy conversion systems and production planning. Some of the areas that Mechanical Engineers are interested in are; manufacturing, automotive, automation, materials science, energy, gas and steam turbines, compressors, nuclear reactors, internal combustion engines, heating, ventilation and cooling.
Upon a successful completion of the programme, student may continue with doctoral study in the same or similar scientific areas, which may accept students from Mechanical Engineering.

Assessment and Grading
|
Regarding exams and passing grades, Balıkesir University Graduate Education and Training Regulations and Graduate School of Applied Sciences Graduate Education and Examination Principles are applied. Course evaluation criteria are defined by the lecturer of that course and given in the Course Description Form in the information package.
